Project Description |
|
|
Brief
Description of project: Elnasser for coke and chemicals company
facilities include two nitric acid production lines with total capacity
200 tons equivalent /day 100% nitric acid, only one line in operation
producing dilute nitric acid 50-55%. The technology employed is
atmospheric pressure Kurpp-Udhe technology (germane licensor).
Production of nitric acid typically involves three main steps: 1.
Oxidation of ammonia (NH3) with Oxygen (O2) to produce nitrogen oxide
(NO). 2. Oxidation of NO with O2 to produce nitrogen dioxide (NO2). 3.
Reacting NO2 with water (“absorption”) to produce nitric acid. N2O is
formed as an unintended by-product of step 1. N2O is an inert gas which
passes through the subsequent steps unchanged and is released to the
atmosphere with the tail gas with annual emission 300 tons N2O to
atmosphere; it is equivalent to 94,000 ton-CO2. The project activity
proposed is to introduce a new basket of specific catalyst to decompose
nitrous oxide gas into its elements nitrogen and oxygen. The
decomposition contribution to GHG mission reduction of more than 75,000
ton CO2 equivalent per year for the duration of the project activity.
Brief description of technology The project will implement one of the
following technology options: 1. High temperature selective catalyst
reduction on extra bed install in ammonia burner in nitric acid process
chain. Technology supplied by BASF employed YAMAGUCHI NITRIC ACID PLANT
JAPAN 2001. 2. Low temperature selective catalytic reduction through an
extra reactor installation in off-gas of nitric acid production.
Technology supplied by KRUPP-UHDE employed in ANTWERS NITRIC ACID PLANT
